On a coordinate plane, 1,2 and -2,2 would be 3 units apart.

Hi!
So let's imagine a coordinate plane in our head. Imagine where these points are. (1,2) is in quadrant I. (-2,2) is in quadrant II.
They have the same y values, so we just need to know the distance between the x values. We can find that by subtracting.
1-(-2)=3
The distance between (1,2) and (-2,2) is 3.
