Note the equation given is:

4(x) = 2/5

Isolate the x. Note the equal sign. What you do to one side, you do to the other. Divide 4 from both sides

4x/4 = (2/5)/4

x = (2/5)/4

x = 2/20

x = 1/10

Check: Plug in 1/10 for x.

1/10 x 4 = 4/10

Simplify 4/10. (4/10)/(2/2) = 2/5 (True)

1/10 is your answer

hope this helps
