Can someone help me out with this please? I suck at fractions

The baseboard will not go across the doorway of the room which is 2 ¼ feet wide.
a. Taking into account the doorway, calculate the new length of baseboard needed for the room

b. The hardware store sells the baseboards in 8 foot lengths. How many boards need to be purchased to install new baseboards in the room?

164 inches x
(1 foot)/(12 inches) =
(41)/(3)ft

147 inches x
(1 foot)/(12 inches) =
(49)/(4)ft

2
(1)/(4)ft =
(9)/(4)

Perimeter = 2L + 2w - 1doorway

= 2
((41)/(3)) + 2(
((49)/(4)) -
(9)/(4)

=
(82)/(3) +
(98)/(4) -
(9)/(4)

=
(82)/(3) +
(89)/(4)

=
((4)/(4) )
(82)/(3) +
((3)/(3) )
(89)/(4)

=
(328)/(12) +
(267)/(12)

=
(595)/(12)

= 49
(7)/(12)ft

b) 49
(7)/(12)ft ÷ 8ft = 6.2

7 boards need to be purchased
