qrt(2x + 8) - 6 = 4

We have a minus sign. What's the inverse operation to subtraction? Addition. Add 6 to both sides

sqrt(2x + 8) = 10

We have a square root. What's the inverse operation to the square root? Squaring. Square both sides

2x + 8 = 100

We have a plus sign. What's the inverse operation to addition? Subtraction. Subtract 8 from both sides

2x = 92

We're multiplying 2 and x. What's the inverse operation to multiplication? Division. Divide both sides by 2.

x = 92/2

x = [(4 + 6)^2 - 8] / 2

Solution: x = 46
