Why do Japanese children take part in disaster preparedness drills at school?

If we look where Japan is positioned, we can see all the potential natural disasters waiting to happen. Japan is known for its natural disasters actually. Japan is prone to earthquakes, tsunamis, etc. So it is important to always stay prepared and have a plan for when things go south.

They take part in disaster preparedness drill because a Tsunami or other disaster could occur at any time and a lot of Japanese schools are near the coast and could easily be taken down from a disaster. Hope this helps
