NEED HELP FAST DONT UNDERSTAND

#1 The ratio of the sides of a rectangle are 5:4. If the perimeter is 36 feet, what is the Width (smaller side) of the rectangle, in feet? Just type the number for the Width. Do NOT type "feet" or anything else.

#2 The Length of a rectangle is 5 inches greater than its Width. The perimeter of the rectangle is 54 inches. What's the length of the rectangle in inches? Just type the Length. Give me a number. Don't type "inches" or anything else.

#1 alright so if the ratio is 5:4 adding them together is 9 but we want 36 as the perimeter sooo

36/9=4

So multiply both the 5 and the 4 makes....

20:16

The 20 and 16 show the total side of the length Andy width so we need to divide them by two so...

(20/2):(16/2)=10:8 so the width would be 8

Check:10(2)+8(2)=20+16=36 yay on to the next one!

#2 ok let's say the length is x, that means the width would be x-5 so the perimeter of that would be 4x-10. Sooo...

4x-10=54 || 4x=54+10 || 4x=64 || x= 16

So the length is 16 while the width is 11. Let's check in case.

16(2)+11(2)=32+22=54 yup :D
