The Articles of Confederation were the first American Constitution and it lasted from 1776 to 1789. But it had many problems that made it unable to make improvements to it. First, because the Colonies were afraid of forming a strong central government, because of this, under the Articles of Confederation a weak central government was created and most powers were handed to the states. This developed a problem, to pass any legislation the Articles demanded a majority of 2/3, but to pass amendments to the Articles it was needed a unanimous vote, this made it impossible to change and make improvements to it and because of it the Constitution was created.
