I believe the answer is: children actively construct knowledge as they manipulate and explore their world.

During their development process, children would create a subjective framework on how the environment around the operates.At first, they would do that by using all of their sense to familiarize themselves with anything around them (you can see this when they put basically anything in their mouths, actively running and touching different objects, etc)
