I believe the answer is: much of what passes for "common sense" in the United States turns out to be at least partly wrong.

What considered as 'common sense' would most likely influenced by how the power holder in the society want the people to think, no matter what society it is. For example, it is considered a 'common sense' in america that a certain country is wrong/evil while the fact is some misinformation spread by companies to obtain their own interest.
