Answer: 9 quarters and 18 pennies

Explanation:

0.25q+0.01(2q)=2.43

Multiply. 0.25q+0.02q=2.43

Combine like terms. 0.27q=2.43

Divide by 0.27. q=9 quarters

The number of pennies is 2q.

2q = 2⋅9 = 18 pennies

Given maria has
\\\$ 2.43 in the pennies & quarters.

she has twice as many pennies as quarters.

find out the coins

let us assume the quarters are x

than the pennies are 2x.

Formula

value of the pennies + value of the quarters = total value of coins

1 quarters =$ 0.25

1 pennies = $0.01

Thus

0.25x + 0.01 (2x) = 2.43

0.27 x = 2.43

x = 9

2x = 18

i.e the number of quarters are 9 and the number of pennies are 18.

Hence proved
