let "one number" = x, and "another" = y

x = 4y + 4

(x + y) - 4 = 28

Plug in 4y + 4 for x

4y + 4 + y - 4 = 28

Simplify. Combine like terms

5y = 28

Isolate the y. Divide 5 from both sides

y = 28/5

y = 5.6

Plug in 28/5 for y.

x = 4y + 4

x = 4(28/5) + 4

Simplify

x = 22.4 + 4

x = 26.4

x = 26.4, y = 5.6

hope this helps
