You need to rent a car for a road trip with some friends. The car rental company charges $36 per day plus $0.50 per mile over 100 miles. Suppose you rent the car for 5 days and drive 180 miles.

a. write an expression for how much it will cost to rent the car.
b. Evaluate the expression to determine your total cost.

Ok so first you will have to multiply 36 and 5 together. This will equal 180.

Now our next step will be to get the amount of money you owe for the miles.

Divide 80 by 2 to get 40. 40+180=220

a) (36*5)+(0.50*80)=220

b) Well the total cost will be 220$

I am always happy to help.

A car rental company charges $36 per day, and $0.50 per mile over 100 miles

You rent the car for 5 days and drive 180 miles

Expression: x = amount of miles,

IF x < 100, then "0.50x + 36" is your expression

Multiply 36 with 5

36 x 5 = 180

Subtract 100 from 180, and then multiply by 0.50

180 - 100 = 80 x 0.50 = 40

Add the two numbers gotten together.

180 + 40 = 220

$220 is your total

hope this helps
