Bharati Mukherjee was considered an American writer but she was born in Calcutta, India in 1940. Mukherjee always tried to give voice to people from all continents, but also to redefine the nature of American and what makes an American regardless of people’s backgrounds or ethnic culture. She wrote to try to include the voice of the minorities as well as the women from all over the world.
In this passage from “A Four-Hundred-Year-Old Woman” by Bharati Mukherjee, what the writer means by the word accommodation is:
her challenges finding a place to stay in a new country.
