During a day of driving, Jane drove twice as far as Mary. Together, the two of them drove a total of 90 miles. How far did each one drive?

this is a ratio of
2:1
the total number of parts is therefore 3, and add up to 90. so each "part" is 30.
therefore, if 1 part is 30, mary drove 30 miles and jane drove 60 miles
