a gardener plants seedlings in a line in small enclosures formed by bricks.Each extra seedling planted means two extra bricks are needed.The formula for the number of bricks needed for n seedlings is (2n+2).Write down an equation and solve it to calculate the number of seedlings that can be planted when there are 78 bricks.

38 seedlings

solve 2n + 2 = 78

subtract 2 from both sides

2n = 78 - 2 = 76

divide both sides by 2

n =
(76)/(2) = 38

number of seedlings that can be planted is 38
