Meselson and stahl also showed that the two strands of a dna double helix can be separated from each other using heat. What important tool in biology depends on this property of dna? What is one modern application of this tool?

The heating of a solution containing DNA leads to the unwinding of the double-stranded DNA. This happens when the Hydrogen bonds holding the two strands together become weak and break. This process of the separation of the double-stranded DNA into individual strands is called DNA melting or DNA denaturation.

The modern tool of polymerase chain reaction or the PCR machine uses this process to separate the strands to enable the replication of DNA.
