Z codes are an important group of codes created in the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) for stating conditions that affects health status and contact with health services. Z codes are assigned as the initial diagnosis in certain situations such as to show the birth status of a new child or to indicate that an individual is attended to for the only purpose of special therapy, such as radiation therapy.
