Rita will rent a car for the weekend. She can choose one of two plans. The first plan has no initial fee but costs $0.90 per mile driven. The second plan has an initial fee of $60 and costs an additional $0.40 per mile driven. How many miles would Rita need to drive for the two plans to cost the same?

Answer:

200 miles

Explanation:

the formula we get from this problem is

0.9x = 60 + 0.6x

subtract 0.6x from both sides to get

0.3x = 60

divide both sides by 0.3 and you get

x = 200; and plug that in to our original equation to check our work

0.9(200) = 60 + 0.6(200)

180 = 60 + 120

180 = 180

hope this helps :)
