mx−y when m=1, x=5, and y=2

The answer is 3

First you have to put the numbers in instead of the letters. Because m is 1, x is 5, and y is 2, the question is now 1(5)-2

Now you have to multiply 1 and 5 because if is in parenthesis you have to multiply. So now the equation is 5-2

Now all you have to do is subtract them and you get 3

Substitute the given values for m , x and y into the expression

mx - y = (1 × 5 )- (2) = 5 - 2 = 3
