To what extent would it be accurate to say that the new england, middle and southern colonies had merged to create a single american society by the 1770s

To a smaller extent. This is because the New England societies were primarily established on staunch religious views which led to little separation between the state and the church. Middle Colonies on the other hand had more religious freedom. The differences in geography also resulted in different economic occupations
