A 2-liter [l] soda bottle, made of pet, will fail at approximately 150 pound-force per square inch [psi] of total pressure. If you were to dive straight down into the ocean with a 2-liter [l] bottle, at what depth in units of feet [ft] would the bottle fail

Answer:

h = 337.35ft

Step-by-step explanation:

Calculating the density of ocean water, we have

G = p/pw

p = G*pw

= 1.025 * 1000

= 1025 kg/m^3

Calculating the pressure exerted by sea water on the bottle, we have

P = pgh

= 1025 * 9.8 * h

= 10055.25h

Converting the failed pressure to N/m^2, we have

150psi = 150 * 6894.75728N/m^2/1 psi

= 1034213.592 N/m^2

Using the condition;

P bottle ≥ Pfail

10055.25h ≥ 1034213.592

h = 1034213.592/10055.25

h = 102.85 * 3.28ft

h = 337.35ft

Therefore, at a depth of 337.35ft, the bottle will failed

solution;

1 pound - force per square inch psi = 6894.75n/m^2

169psi=169 x 6894.75

=1165212.75n/m^2

if pressure exerted in bottle would be greater then pressure on which bottle gets filed

P_(bott)\geq P_(fail)\\

10055.25h\geq 1165212.75\\

h=115.88
