I hope this is what you are looking for:
8×45=?
could also be written as:
8(45)=? or 45(8)=?
If you give (distribute) by multiplying, the 8 to the 45, then you get your answer:
8(45)= 360
basically, the parentheses act as a multiplication sign.

Express 45 = 40+5 then
8 times 45 can be written
8(40+5) = 320+40 = 360
