let's firstly conver the improper fractions of 10/3 and 17/3 to mixed and then check where in the number line they might be.

to convert from improper to mixed, we simply divide numerator by denominator, and the quotient goes upfront, the remainder is the new numerator and we retain the denominator.

\bf 10/ 3\implies \stackrel{quotient}{3}\qquad \stackrel{remainder}{1}\implies \stackrel{quotient}{3}+\frac{\stackrel{remainder}{1}}{3}\implies 3(1)/(3) \\\\\\ 17/ 3\implies \stackrel{quotient}{5}\qquad \stackrel{remainder}{2}\implies \stackrel{quotient}{5}+\frac{\stackrel{remainder}{2}}{3}\implies 5(2)/(3)

and well, you know where they go in the number line, they're right there.
