Give the mass of the Sun is indefinitely more massive than our moon, why is the gravitational pull of the moon on the Earth (tides) greater than the sun?

Since the moon is closer, sure the mass of the sun is much greater than the moon, but this isnt the only factor important here since distance is more important.
