Francine and Cheryl received a scores on it is made up of multiple choice questions and an essay. Francine got 34 multiple choice questions correct and received 14 points for essay. Cheryl got 30 multiple-choice questions correct and received 22 points for essay. How many points was it multiple-choice question worth?

We'll call the number of points awarded for each correct answer x.

34x + 14 = 30x + 22

Subtract 14 and subtract 30x and get 34x = 30x + 8

4x = 8

x = 2
