In paragraph 17, what specific words or phrases contribute to the mood created for the story by the author? Select all that apply.

17. Suddenly the adjutant croaked out a weird laugh. It was a terrible laugh, which had its origin in that part of the mind which is first moved by the singing of the nerves. "Well," he said, humorously to Lean, "I suppose we had best tumble him in."

The mood created in the story by the author is the horror of the civil war. Some of the words which contribute to that mood is "weird laugh," and "terrible laugh." They convey an atmosphere of strange and bad feelings. The verb "croaked out" also describes a rare feeling, given that human beings do not usually laugh as frogs. In addition, the adverb "suddenly" creates some suspense in the paragraph, which is not a positive feeling.
