Answer:

The Second Battle of El Alamein was the turning point of the war in North Africa, during World War II. The battle was the continuation of the first battle of El Alamein, which had stopped the advance of Afrika Korps forces. General Bernard Montgomery had taken command of the VIII British Army, displacing Claude Auchinleck in August 1942.

The Allied victory ended the German wishes to seize Egypt, then a British protectorate, and gain control of the Suez Canal, as well as the oil wells of the Middle East. After this battle, German forces had to withdraw across the entire North African coast, suffering British persecution at all times, until finally a large number of German soldiers were trapped in Tunisia, although many escaped to Sicily.
