Read the excerpt from David Foster Wallace’s Infinite Jest.

I am seated in an office, surrounded by heads and bodies. My posture is consciously congruent to the shape of my hard chair. This is a cold room in University Administration, wood-walled, Remington-hung, double-windowed against the November heat, insulated from Administrative sounds by the reception area outside, at which Uncle Charles, Mr. deLint and I were lately received.

I am in here.

Which is an explicit detail from this passage?
A)Hal feels uncomfortable in this room.
B)Hal does not want to participate in this interview.
C)Hal is sitting on a hard chair in a cold room.
D)Hal feels intimidated by the three deans.

The answer is C

The right answer is C “Hal is sitting on a hard chair in a cold room”. The line from the text that provides evidence for choosing this option is: My posture is consciously congruent. He tells us that the chair in which he is sit is hard meaning he is not comfortable. Consequently, he tries to show that he is in the same way as the chair, hard and uncomfortable.

The answer is C

We realize that he is in the office, first. Then we observe that he is seated in a chair. The rest of the paragraph is a digression in which describes the details of the administrative office at the University.
