The sum of 5(x) + 4 = (-9)

We have to isolate the x so we subtract 4.

5(x) + 4 = (-9)

5(x) - 4 = - 4

5(x) = (- 13)

Now we have to continue to isolate the x.

So now we have to divide by 5.

5(x)/5 = (-13)/5

and that's x = (-2.6)
