Suppose a building inspector orders the height of a ceiling to be 8 feet tall, but the workers buy lumber that is only 50 centimeters tall. How many pieces of lumber will they have to stack to create an 8-foot ceiling? Explain your answer. (Hint: 1 inch = 2.54 centimeters.)

Height of the ceiling required is 8 feet

8 feet = 8 feet * 12 (inch)/(1 feet)* 2.54 (cm)/(1 inch)

H = 243.84 cm

Size of one lumber is 50 cm

so total number of lumbers required for this

N = (H)/(L)

N = (243.84)/(50)

N = 4.88 = 5 Lumbers

so it requires 5 lumbers
