Solution:

According to the Mole-mass conversions....

Since Mass of = 440 mg (given)

440 mg of CO2 x (1g / 1000 mg) x (1 mole of CO2 / 44.0g of CO2) x (1 mole C / 1 mole of CO2)

= 0.010 mole C

This is the required solution of the mole-mass conversion.

The formula of number of moles is:

number of moles = (mass of compound or element)/(Molar mass of compound/element) -(1)

Mass of
CO_2 = 440 mg (given)

Since, 1 mg = 0.001 g

So, 440 mg = 0.44 g

Molar mass of
CO_2 =
12+ 2 * 16 = 44 g/mol

Substituting the values in formula (1):

Number of moles of
CO_2 =
(0.44 g)/(44 g/mol) = 0.01 mole

Since, in 1 mole of
CO_2 there is 1 mole of
C.

So, number of moles of
C in 0.01 mole of
CO_2 is 0.01 mole.

Hence, the number of moles of
C in 440 mg of
CO_2 is 0.01 mole.
