The best example for responding to an environment is the reproduction of bacteria, they constantly reproduce which allows mutation in the DNA. This mutation will change the way bacteria interact with the environment that they are in. For example bacteria can become immune to antibiotics by their ability to reproduce quickly and their mutation in DNA.
