The slope can be defined as the change in y over the change in x

we can break this down even more by doing the y of the second point minus the y of the first point over x of the second point minus the y of the first point

so
(2-8)/(4-2) =
(-6)/(2) = -3 so the slope is -3

we can check this by graphing it and we will see that we get y= -3x+14 for an equation that runs through all the points.
