1) 2(x+3)=8 would be the Given.

2)2x+6=8 would be the distributive postulate.

3)2x=2 would be the subtraction property of Equality.

4) x=1 would be the division property of Equality

Match the reasons with the statements.

To Prove: x = 1

Given: 2 (x + 3) = 8

Step 1: 2(x + 3) = 8

Distributive postulate ( distribute 2 over x+3)

Step 2: 2x+6=8

Subtraction property of equality ( subtract 6 both sides )

Step 3: 2x = 8-6 = 2

Division property of equality ( divide both sides by 2)

Step 4: x=1

Now we make table which shows matching of two column

2(x + 3) = 8 ---------- Given

2x+6=8 ----------- Distributive Postulate

2x = 2 ---------- Subtraction property of equality

x=1 ---------- Division property of equality
