Madeline Usher in "The Fall of the House of Usher" by Edgar Allan Poe, is buried alive. Madeline is Roderick Usher's twin sister and, along with her brother, is one of the only two surviving members of the Usher family. She is terminally ill and suffers fits of catalepsy, meaning she appears rigid and does not move for long periods of time. She is buried alive and the narrator is always trying to deceive the reader that he, together with Roderick, is the devil, because of knowing buried Madeline alive.

In the short story “The Fall of the House of Usher” by Edgar Allan Poe, an unnamed narrator arrives to the house of Roderick Usher.

The narrator has come to seek the help of Mr. Usher because the narrator's sister Madeline suffers from a terrible illness. But she is actually Catatonic, a condition where a person seems to be dead, but is not. In the past even doctors were confused but the condition and declared a lot of people dead without being really dead, but catatonic.

So, after Madeline is declared "dead" she is buried, but she is alive.

She is buried alive
