How did the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor change the public’s opinion about the war

The public wanted to stay out of the war at all costs but morale changed as soon as the United States was the one being attacked. Suddenly the country was very unified and volunteering for the war.

With the attack on their own homeland, the American public did not view WW2 as a foreign war, and instead decided that they must retaliate, and return the favor for what they were given, a declaration of war against Japan, and a return declaration on all powers in the Axis alliance.
