What is the value of x in the equation

x+4=11

Well, if x+4=11, and 7+4=11, then that means that x=7

Note the equal sign. What you do to one side, you do to the other. Isolate the x.

Subtract 4 from both sides

x + 4 (-4) = 11 (-4)

x = 11 - 4

x = 7

7 is your answer for x.
