Multiply both sides of equation by 3.


`r + 6 = (1)/(2) * (r + 8)`

Distribute one half thought parenthesis.


`r + 6 = (1)/(2) * r + 4`

Multiply both sides of equation by 2.


`2r + 12 = r + 8`

Move r variable to left side and change its sign.


`2r - r + 12 = 8`

Collect the like terms.


`r = 8 - 12`

Result:


`r = - 4`
