Isolate the x in the equation. Remember to do the opposite of PEMDAS.

First, add 8 to both sides

3x - 8 (+8) = -2 (+8)

3x = 6

Next, divide 3 from both sides

3x/3 = 6/3

x = 6/3

x = 2

Plug in 2 for x in the expression "x - 6"

2 - 6 = -4

-4 is your answer

hope this helps
