1) x + 4/5 = 11

Isolate the x. Subtract 4/5 from both sides

x + 4/5 (-4/5) = 11 (-4/5)

x = 11 - 4/5

x = 10 1/5

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

x - 3/7 = 4

Isolate the x. Add 3/7 to both sides

x - 3/7 (+3/7) = 4 (+3/7)

x = 4 + 3/7

x = 4 3/7

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

x + 3/5 = 5/7

Subtract 3/5 from both sides

x + 3/5 (-3/5) = 5/7 (-3/5)

x = 5/7 - 3/5

Find common denominators. Remember that what you multiply to the denominator, you multiply to the numerator as well

(5/7)(5/5) = 25/35

(3/5)(7/7) = 21/35

x = 25/35 - 21/35

x = 4/35
