=> 5x + 9 = 4

Adding - 9 on both sides,

=> 5x + 9 - 9 = 4 - 9

=> 5x = - 5

Divide by 5 on both sides,

= > (5x)/(5) = ( - 5)/(5)

=> x = - 1

Hence the value of the variable x is - 1
