Solve the system by the addition method x2−3y2=1;3x2+3y2=15

Hey !

x² - 3y² = 1 ---------------- ( 1 )

3x² + 3y² = 15 -------------- ( 2 )

....................................................................................................................................................

Add equations ( 1 ) and ( 2 )

.........................................

we get,

4x² = 16

Dividing by 4 on both sides

x² = 4

x = √4

x = 2

............................

Substitute the value of x in any equation to get the value of y

( 2 )² - 3y² = 1

4 - 3y² = 1

-3y² = -3

y² = 1

y = 1
