A company manufactures both mountain bikes and trail bikes. The cost of materials for a mountain bike is $40, and the cost of materials for a trail bike is $50. The cost of labor to manufacture a mountain bike is $80, and the cost of labor to manufacture a trail bike is $50. During a week in which the company has budgeted $1,750 for materials and $2,750 for labor, how many mountain bikes does the company plan to manufacture?

Hey there!!

The number of mountain bikes - x and trail bikes - y

Into an equation

40x + 50y = 1750 ( this is for materials ) ------------------ ( 1 )

80x + 50y = 2750 ( this is for labor ) --------------------- ( 2 )

Subtracting the first equation from the second

40x = 1000

x = 1000 / 40

x = 25

x = mountain bikes = 25 bikes

The required answer = 25

Hope helps!
