A retangle piece of sheet matel has an area of 10 square feet. the length of the sheet metal is 3ft more than the width. what is the perimeter of the sheet metal?

Let the width be x feet, then the length is x+ 3 and we have:-

x(x + 3) = 10

x^2 + 3x - 10 = 0

(x + 5)(x - 2) = 0

x = 2, -5 We ignore the -5 because width must be positive.

So the width is 2 and length is 2 + 3 = 5

and the perimeter = 2(5) + 2(2) = 14 feet answer
