I don't understand this one. Please help:

n "Ali and the Magic Stew," why are the passersby so mean to Ali when he asks them for money so that he can buy ingredients for the stew?

A.
They know that the stew will not actually heal Ali's father and that the beggar has lied to him.

B.
They do not want Ali's father to get well because he has been cruel to them in the past.

C.
They recognize Ali as the selfish and spoiled son of a local merchant.

Answer: D

In the story, Ali dresses up in rags and begs for money to buy ingredients at the market. The ingredients are to be used for a stew that will restore his father's health. However, people are cruel and rude to him when he begs. They assume he is lying in order to get money. They tell him:

"A dying father! There's a new one! What lies these pigs invent to take our gold!"

The behaviour is similar to Ali's attitude towards the beggar that lives outside his house. The experience teaches him a lesson on kindness and justice.
