Answer: Economic inequalities.

According to Marx, those members of society that control the means of production (land, factories, equipment) use their economic power to dominate other spheres of society, such as religion, law, government, culture, etc. Moreover, the capitalist system creates a surplus population. Deviance, on the part of the surplus population, means going against the rules that the dominant classes have established. It is, therefore, an act of resistance.
