Let p be the number of pens in container. If there are 9 more pencils than pens, then there are p+9 pencils in container.

In total, there are p+p+9=2p+9 utensils in the container.

You know that there are 25 writing utensils in the container in all, thus

2p+9=25.

Answer: correct option is D.
