Simplify: 14+{−2+3[1+3(−6−2)]}

I know the answer is -57 but why?

The answer is 9. You get this by using the order of operations.

First complete the numbers in the first set of parentheses.

-6-2= -8

now you have 14+{−2+3[1+3-8]}

Then complete the next part in the next set of parentheses. Use the order of operations (pemdas)

1+3-8= -4

Now you have 14+{−2+3-4}

complete everything in the last set of parentheses.

-2+3-4= -5

you are now left with 14-5

14-5=9
