About a decade ago, some clinicians and researchers began using "text messages" to help track the behaviors, thoughts, and emotions of clients with psychological problems.
But text messages are not a viable alternative for face-to-face communication, since text messaging can't precisely pass on tone, feeling, outward appearances, motions, non-verbal communication, eye to eye connection, oral discourse, or up close and personal discussion, it is likely messages will be misjudged or misconstrued. The genuine importance of your message gets lost through the medium.
