The argument made by the authors of the declaration of independance was that since Britain does not protect the rights of the colonists, it was expedient that they should separate from Britain, and become an independent nation. On July 4, 1776, the declaration was adopted by the 2nd Continental Congress meeting, which held at at the Pennsylvania State House in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This place, is today known as Independence Hall.
